Quilici, Nello
Nello Quilici (1890–1940) composed the Italian text for the
inscription of the Arco dei Fileni, which was translated into Latin by Giorgio
Pasquali. Quilici was a journalist and editor of Corriere Padano, a
newspaper founded by the leading Fascist Italo Balbo. He also taught modern
political history for a decade (1928–38) at the University of Ferrara (Roveri
2006: 46). Quilici was a staunch supporter of Italy’s racial laws, promulgated
in 1938, and he wrote in support of them in Nuova Antologia. In 1940, he
travelled to Libya where the plane he was in, along with Balbo, Governor of
Libya at the time, crashed. All
on board perished.
