Very little is known about Francesco Stanco’s life. He was a member of the Salesian Order, as we can gather from a signed copy of his Epitome di cultura fascista (Stanco 1935), dedicated to Emilio Bodrero (1874-1949), Senator of the Kingdom of Italy (copy of the University of Padua Library, Biblioteca del Dipartimento di Filosofia, FB.F.456, BID RAV0255242, available online). The reviews to the first edition of the schoolbook, as printed in the second edition of 1938, mention ‘il prof. [= professore] Francesco Stanco’ (Stanco 1938: 151-154), a title used for teachers in secondary schools. This suggests that the author was involved in teaching, perhaps history or Latin or both.
