De fascibus Imperioque restitutis - 1938
De
Fascibus Imperioque Restitutis (“On the return of the Fasces and
the Empire”) is a Latin prose text which Ficari wrote in 1937 for the third
edition of the Concorso nazionale di prosa latina (“National
competition of Latin prose”). The results of the competition were announced on
9 May 1937, the first anniversary of the foundation of the empire in Oriental
Africa. In this contest, the first and second prize were not awarded, but
Ficari’s prose text received a special mention (Taccone 1938: 255). In this
Latin prose text, Ficari celebrates the results achieved by Fascism after the
March on Rome. The author starts by praising the role of Fascism in putting an
end to the post-war economic and social crisis (par. I), and then goes on to
exalt Mussolini’s providential role in saving and reviving the fatherland, and
his (idealized) political conduct (par. II-V). The last sections focus on
Italy’s restored military power and patriotism (par. VI), on the main
achievements of the regime (par. VII), and finally on the revival of the Roman
empire and of Rome’s universal domination (par. VIII). De Fascibus
Imperioque Restitutis was both published as a self-standing booklet
(Ficari 1937) and included in a collection of prose texts Ficari wrote for
the Concorso nazionale di prosa latina (Ficari 1938a: 29-37)
