[Speech by Mussolini, 9 May 1936] - All Latin translations - 1936
The following is a
collection of Latin translations of the speech Mussolini delivered from the balcony of Palazzo Venezia in Rome on 9 May
1936, announcing the defeat of Ethiopia and declaring empire. The speech was a key text in the Fascist regime’s presentation of itself as a renewal of the Roman empire and was translated into Latin several times. All translations
presented below also have their own FLT-entry. Some changes in paragraph structure had to be made in order to present the texts in parallel, and the textual notes have been removed. For the notes and a more accurate reproduction of the texts’ original structure, please visit the individual FLT-pages of the translations with the title [Speech by Mussolini, 9 May 1936]; for Balboni's translation, please see his Renuntiatio Romani Imperium iterum restituti.
Nigra induti subucula vos novi rerum ordinis auctores!
Itali Italaeque cives domi aut peregre viventes!
Audite.
Lictorii Sodales!
Itali sexus utriusque cives!
Suis viribus sanguine suo Populus Italicus imperium creavit; laboribus suis fecundum reddet; armis adversus omnes mortales defendet.
CONSERVABIMVS.
Regi salutationem more militari reddite!
