Banner, Fascio di Combattimento 'Numquam recedo' - 1920s

THEMES/GENRES

This 1920s banner, crafted for the Fascist Fighting Band (Fascio di Combattimento), features embroidered silk and measures 50 x 50 cm. Its design showcases the Italian tricolore, with a central depiction of the fasces adorned with an axe and embraced by an eagle. This iconography evokes Piero Bolzon's design of the membership cards of the Fascio di Cambattimento and later the National Fascist Party (see the images below). This banner was crafted specifically for the Pellio d’Intelvi branch of the Fascio di Combattimento, as indicated on its black reverse side. It was used in processions and spectacles.

The Latin phrase positioned below the fasces is reminiscent of heraldic mottos, despite lacking clear parallels in ancient Latin literature.
