Buffatti, Giovanni Battista

Biography

Giovanni (Gian) Battista Buffatti (1864–1951) was a priest and teacher at several schools in Verona, including the city’s episcopal gymnasium (Diocesi di Verona 2011: 31; Rivière 1893: 17; for his dates, Ederle and Cervato 2002: 156). His areas of instruction included history and geography. Buffatti authored Latin compositions for various church ceremonies and events, such as an inscription commemorating the completion of the renovated bell tower at the parish church of San Michele in Verona (1937), which can still be seen today. His repertoire of political Latin verses, including an ode to Benito Mussolini, appears to have been limited (Buffatti 1934; Buffatti 1938).
