Taberini, Luigi

Biography

Luigi Taberini (d. 1933), originally from Naples (van Binnebeke 2020: 282, n. 175), was a teacher at the Royal High School of Ancona (Regio Ginnasio di Ancona). He was part of the circle of Latin poets around the illustrious Latinist Alessandro Zappata (1860–1929), a teacher at the same school (Garavani 1934: 185). In 1927, Taberini’s Herculanum resurgens (Taberini 1930) was well-received at the Certamen Locrense. This seems to be the only official recognition his poetry ever received, although he participated four times in the Certamen Hoeufftianum between 1928 and 1931 (see van Binnebeke 2020: 282ff.). Despite his prolific activity, most of his Latin works were published in limited local editions, and therefore remained largely unknown (Garavani 1933: 185).
